Lent

We  enter the wilderness with Jesus in Lent

Lent gives us an opportunity to reflect on our lives and it is a time when many people choose to seek forgiveness from God. We need the Sacrament of Penance because each of us, from time to time, sins.  When we recognise that we have offended God, who is all deserving of our love, we sense the need to make things right.  Like the prodigal son in the Gospel, we long to know again the loving forgiveness of God who patiently waits for each of us.

The celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation is an opportunity for us to make a new beginning in our lives of faith.  This sacrament brings us the forgiveness of God and his Church as we recognise our need for his mercy and pardon in our lives.  It is not easy for us to admit our sinfulness—and it can be very difficult for us to face our own weaknesses and failings.

Confessions are available on Saturday evenings in Athboy Church at 5.45pm.

Trócaire Boxes are available in the churches this weekend.  We share the proceeds of our fasting or the sacrifices we make during Lent with people who need our support. Please take a Trócaire box home and use it during Lent to support people in the developing world.
