Cemetery Devotions

Published on

This weekend we gather in Athboy for cemetery prayers.

2pm cemetery St James’ Church of Ireland

3pm St James’ Cemetery, Cloran Road.

“Since in baptism the body was marked with the seal of the Trinity and became the temple of the Holy Spirit, Christians respect and honour the bodies of the dead and the places where they rest.”        Order of Christian Funerals

We show our love and respect to deceased family and friends by visiting and praying where they are buried and by tending their burial place. Renewed thank you to families who take care of their family plot throughout the year.

Prayer of Saint John Henry Newman

May the Lord support us all the day long,
Till the shades lengthen and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,

and the fever of life is over,
and our work is done.
Then in his mercy may he give us a safe lodging,
and holy rest, and peace at the last.  Amen.
