Lent

begins on Ash Wednesday this week.  It is a forty-day liturgical season of fasting, prayer and alms-giving in preparation for Easter.  We recall the forty days and nights Jesus spent in the wilderness after his baptism, praying and fasting, before he started to preach, teach and heal.  We are invited during these spring days to unite ourselves more closely to Jesus by praying, fasting and helping the poor in whatever way we can.  On Ash Wednesday, we sprinkle ashes on our foreheads as a sign of sorrow for our sin and a desire to repent and be forgiven.

Mass times on Ash Wednesday 9.30am & 7.30pm in Athboy Church.  Ashes will be blessed and distributed at both Masses.

Trócaire Boxes and Envelopes: are available in the church and we invite every home to take a Trócaire Box and use it to assist developing communities to improve the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves.
