Feast of St Brigid, Thursday 1st February

Published on

Renowned for her hospitality, almsgiving and care of the sick, Brigid was born in 454. Despite her father’s wishes for her to marry, Brigid insisted on devoting her life to God.  She is believed to have been taught by St Mel and she received the veil and spiritual direction from him in Ardagh.  Other women followed her example and she founded her monastery in Kildare, her native county.  The St Brigid’s Cross in legend used by Brigid to explain the Christian faith, remains a sign of God’s protection.

If you have a St Brigid’s cross that you would like to have blessed, please bring it to Mass on Thursday (Feb 1st) at 9.30am.
