St. James’ Church, Athboy The Church dedicated to St. James is the parish church. Lewis, writing in 1837, says ” the chapel is now in the course of re-erection and when completed will be a handsome and commodious edifice in the ancient style of architecture with a steeple 90 feet high.” It was completed in 1845. Fr. James Rickard was the Parish Priest at the time of construction. In 2006, the church underwent extensive renovations . The bell was restored and reactivated in 2016. It was cast in 1845 and is a fine example of the Murphy/Byrne’s of James St., Dublin. It rings every hour from 9am to 9pm each day.

The organ in St James’ Church was purchased from the Dominican Convent in Eccles Street, Dublin in 1993. A Conacher organ, it was built in 1909.It was restored and refurbished in 2016. It is a magnificent instrument which has been maintained to its original condition and configuration.
